2019 Kia Optima Safety Awards

The 2019 Kia Optima is regarded as an elegant, powerful, efficient, and tech-laden car. But perhaps most importantly, it is widely celebrated for its safety technologies and ratings.

IIHS and NHTSA safety ratings

For 2019, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded both the 2019 Kia Optima and the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid with its highest honor: the Top Safety Pick+ award.

To earn this title, the 2019 Optima had to earn the highest marks from the IIHS for the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, side, moderate overlap front, head restraint, and roof strength tests. On top of that, the Optima had to earn an “advanced” rating in front crash prevention, as well as a “good” rating for headlights. The Optima surpassed that, earning the “superior” rating for front crash prevention.

The other major crash test organization, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, also subjected the 2019 Kia Optima to intense testing. The Optima scored top marks there as well, earning the coveted 5-Star Overall Safety Rating.

2019 Optima safety features

What safety features does the 2019 Kia Optima sedan offer? Among the traditional safety features are a suite of airbags and seat belts, a Traction Control System, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-Start Assist Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, an Antilock Braking System, and the Brake Assist System.

The 2019 Kia Optima also has Kia Drive Wise safety features. For example, every Optima model comes standard with Blind Spot Collision Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assistance-Car, and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning. Also standard are Lane Change Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Park Distance Warning-Reverse. Available Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go makes cruise control safer than before. Other available tech includes the Surround View Monitor and Dynamic Bending Light.
